Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well blended.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently a couple of times, then pat it into a circle approximately 1 inch thick.
  7. Use a knife to cut the dough into wedges or a biscuit cutter for round shapes.
Baking
  1. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
  2. Allow the scones to cool for a few minutes on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Using cold butter is crucial for achieving flaky layers. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture. You can add nuts or raisins for added texture.
