  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Balances salt and helps the yeast activate quickly.
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast The key to the quick rise.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup warm water (about 110°F) Should feel warm, not hot.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter Either works well for brushing the top.

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture, then pour in the olive oil (or melted butter). Stir until you have a soft, slightly sticky dough.
  3. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Let the loaf rest for 5 minutes while preheating the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Baking
  1. Brush the top of the loaf with olive oil or melted butter, then bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

Store the bread at room temperature in a bag or tightly wrapped to keep it fresh. To rewarm, heat slices briefly.
