Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until incorporated.
  4. Pour in the milk and add the vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  7. Spoon batter into cupcake liners until 2/3 full.
Baking
  1. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
Frosting
  1. Frost the cooled cupcakes with vanilla frosting and add optional toppings.
