Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large onions Sliced into thin rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Use fresh for best flavor
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Use fresh for best flavor
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg For binding
  • 1 cup buttermilk For soaking

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, approximately ¼ inch thick.
  2. In a bowl, soak the sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. After soaking, remove the onions from buttermilk, letting any excess drip off.
  5. Coat each ring in the flour mixture, ensuring they are thoroughly covered.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the onion rings in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap.
  3. Air fry the onions for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Remove the crispy onions and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, allow sufficient soaking time and ensure onions are sliced evenly. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, reheating in the air fryer.
