Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, approximately ¼ inch thick.
- In a bowl, soak the sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- After soaking, remove the onions from buttermilk, letting any excess drip off.
- Coat each ring in the flour mixture, ensuring they are thoroughly covered.
Cooking
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the onion rings in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap.
- Air fry the onions for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Remove the crispy onions and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
For best results, allow sufficient soaking time and ensure onions are sliced evenly. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, reheating in the air fryer.
