Method
Preparation
- Begin by peeling the onions and slicing them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
- Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
Coating
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- After soaking, lift the onions from the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dip each ring into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the onion rings in a single layer without overlapping.
- Spray the tops of the onion rings lightly with cooking spray, then air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Once golden brown and crispy, carefully remove the onions and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
For best results, slice onions evenly and avoid overcrowding the air fryer. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
